A Resource Manual and Toolbox for Facilitating Collaboration and Change
Building Shared Commitment – Facilitation Training and Capacity Building (FTCB)
This Resource Manual and Toolbox is a revised and expanded version of what developed as
a collection of field tested tools and resources used by facilitators of the Centre for Intercultural Learning, Canadian (CIL) and the CIDA-Egypt Program Support Unit (PSU).
The purpose of the original toolbox was to:
Support facilitators addressing issues in project and program effectiveness.
Strengthen collaboration among the diverse actors and stakeholders in development work.
Strengthen learning, sustainability and achievement of development results.
Since then, over 150 facilitators have been trained over 5 years in Egypt. The training was the subject of a transfer-level evaluation in 2006, and was included in a larger CIDA-Egypt Program Assessment in 2009. Both of these evaluations confirmed that the curriculum and the training of facilitators were making a significant contribution to the development outcomes of the projects in Egypt.
This present edition has the same purpose as the original toolbox, but goes a bit beyond in scope:
Some material has been updated and other added to reflect evolving thinking and facilitation practice as experienced by trainers and participants.
While the current manual has as its main focus the effectiveness of CIDA projects and
programs, material was incorporated to broaden applicability to include new modes of collaboration in development work other than traditional projects and programs.
