Media Reform Program

The project's goal is to provide policy recommendations for the reform process of the Media sector in Egypt. Project scope covers different types of media (written, audio, television, and online) from three different aspects: structure, ownership and professionalism, and from different formal, private and independent entities. Accordingly, the project's objectives are;

• To evaluate the media performance during the last 5 years since the 2005 elections till the revolution.
• To propose alternatives for the reform on the media sector based on international experience and related to the Egyptian context.
• To enhance the capacity of media cadres in one of the main issues that Egypt will be facing in the coming period ( Election’s coverage)

      The objectives of the project will be implemented under 3 components:

Component 1:  Media Evaluation workshop: A one day workshop with experts to evaluate the media performance and identify the main weaknesses in its performance and why.

Component 2:  Policy papers: Based on the reports presented during the workshop 6 policy analysis and recommendation papers will be proposed to the decision makers, to different reform actors as well as to the public as alternative proposals for the media sector reform in Egypt.

Component 3:  Training on Media Coverage for Election: in partnership with The BBC Arabic, two training workshops (5 days workshop) will be held to develop the skills and capacities of Media Cadres in the field of Election Coverage.
