Citizenship Support Center

The issue of citizenship has gained increased attention at both the theoretical and practical levels during the past two decades in Egypt. More attention is needed on this issue and its relevance to the Egyptian democratic transition and civic education processes in terms of research, knowledge, training and the role of media. Accordingly, the primary objective of the project is to establish the "Citizenship Support Centre" (CSC) within Al-Misry Foundation. The Center's mandate is to raise and promote public awareness regarding the principle of citizenship and civic education. A citizenship that ensures equality among all segments of the society irrespective of race, color, faith, ethnicity or social class and which entails opportunities to participate in all areas and the attainment of  basic civil rights for all Egyptian citizens.  The Center also supports dialogue among different groups and sectors in the society as the sole civic mechanism whereby differences can become a source of progress rather than a source of conflict, and whereby diversity, plurality and the right to differ are upheld and democratic progress is supported.
