Family Rights for Newly Married and Engaged in Cairo

The main objective of the project is to contribute to limiting the accelerating rate of divorce in Egypt, specifically focusing on the area of Imbaba.  The project will operate on two different levels: the Enabling Environment and the Community Levels. On the level of the community, the project will target both men and women within the marriage age (18-35) to raise their awareness on their legal and social rights to enable them to engage in a healthy marriage relationship.  Specific activities include carrying out four training workshops targeting a total of 80 youth (men and women), each over a period of three-days.  The aim of these workshops is to build the capacity of youth to be able to practice their social and legal rights.  The project also entails conducting 5 awareness sessions for a number of 25 community leaders to become involved in solving day-to-day family conflicts as well as to attract more youth to the organization.  On the policy level, the organization proposes to conduct two roundtable discussions for non-governmental organizations that exist within the area of Imbaba to raise their awareness about the project, and exchange their experience with these organizations with the aim of providing a more conducive environment for youth to practice their rights to marriage.  Another proposed activity is to carry out one round-table discussion for marriage-brokers to raise their awareness on the importance of the new marriage certificate which guarantees both partners the rights to stipulate any conditions.  Finally, the organization proposes to conduct 5 follow-up sessions for training participants to ensure that the project objectives are being carried out effectively as well as to highlight important challenges to be tackled in future activities.
