Health Awareness to Protect Children Working in Quarries

The project in hands addresses the worst forms of child labor: children working in quarries. The project’s objective is to increase the level of awareness for families and working children about health risks and hazards of child labor, especially targeting children working in quarries in the Beni Suef governorate. The project activities address 3 different target groups as follows; activities targeting families, activities targeting children, and capacity building activities for the Ali Hammouda community-based organization in the areas of child rights and awareness campaign management. The project aims to achieve its objectives through; increasing family and parents’ awareness in relation to health hazards for children working in quarries, provision of medical check-ups through 6 medical convoys to the benefit of the children in the Ali Hammouda village, providing alternative sources of income to the working children to support their families through the provision of vocational training in less hazardous sectors (i.e. woodworking, car repair, etc…). Accordingly the project components include:

1. Awareness sessions for the families;

2. Medical convoys;

3. Alternative vocational training;

4. Social activities for children;

5. Organizational capacity building.
