The National Initiative for Building a Democratic Society  “Centre for Volunteers”

Egypt is witnessing a strong social and political transformation following the January 25th Revolution. This transformation requires a greater amount of societal and community mobilization in order to pave the road towards the first steps of democratic development to take place in the country after years of citizens’ marginalization from the political life. Accordingly, the project’s goal is to raise the general awareness of citizens in the target governorates in order to enable them to effectively participate in the political life. The project’s specific objectives are: To establish a centre for volunteers and build the capacity of 50 female and male young cadres to lead political awareness activities in target governorates; To raise the awareness of 2000 citizens in the target governorates in order to enable them to participate in the process of civic engagement and social movement; To provide different stakeholders involved in the political arena in the target governorates with the definition of needs and the political viewpoints of citizens; Throughout the different project activities, the implementing organization targets the following groups: 2000 female and male volunteers in the target governorates (200 volunteers from each governorate); 50 female and male cadres for the ten governorates (5 female and male cadres from each governorate); Parties and political groups inside Egypt; Local newspapers. The project will be implemented in the governorates of Alexandria, Cairo, Dakahleya, Sharkeya, Sohag, Matroh, Beni Swif , El Menya, Luxur and Monofeya.
