Towards a Nation of Rights and Rule of Law
The goal of the proposed project is to launch a series of activities throughout the next months. This project is the first phase of a long-term program that will respond to the political situation in Egypt as it develops. It will transform the “Road Map for a Nation of Rights and the Rule of Law” drafted by CIHRS and endorsed by several other human rights organizations and the Youth Coalition of the Egyptian Revolution, into concrete and achievable objectives. Specifically, the proposed project aims to include all relevant stakeholders and civil society actors in developing key recommendations and policies concerning Egypt’s transition process. The purpose is to launch initiatives as the events occur in the transition period to advocate for the recommendations made by target groups at all levels of Egyptian society. The outputs of this project will largely be in the form of targeted advocacy and education, in addition to publications to inform the citizens on the democratic transformation. Accordingly, CIHRS will organize a public lecture on a monthly basis and roundtable discussions to be hosted every 1.5 months, followed by lobbying meetings. The topics outlined in the project description will steer the direction of discussions, however, the content will largely be shaped and affected by the changing political situation and developments in Egypt. Furthermore, CIHRS will publish policy papers both mid-way through the project and at the end of the project, to assess the situation in Egypt in light of the recommendations and discussions produced through project activities. In addition, CIHRS will organize a press conference during the project duration. Given the design of the project, it will require the expertise of Egyptian activists, policy makers, and other relevant actors, as well as international experts and political actors. These experts will help to shape the content of discussion sessions and lectures, and will guide the content of information based on how events unfold over the next months.
