“The Coptic Religion”

Who are the Copts? The word ‘Copt’ is derived from a distortion of the Greek word “Aiguptus”, which the Greek used to name Egypt, the Nile, and the Egyptians. Traditionally, Copts signify the Egyptians who accepted Christianity as their faith during the middle of the first century. Many anthropologists and Egyptologists consider that Copts are direct descendants of ancient Egyptians. This can also apply to Egyptian Muslims, which underlines the ethnic homogeneity among Egyptians. Hence, Egyptians do not constitute two distinct ethnic groups.
