Governance: Active Citizenship Engagement for Good Governance

The Egypt Program of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is committed to achieving poverty reduction and sustainable, equitable development by strengthening citizen participation and institutional capacities of civil society, government & public institutions and businesses.

ACE is CIDA’s statement of its position on strengthening governance in Egypt by supporting the institutional capacities of civil society to expand the civic domain and catalyze good governance and active citizenship in Egypt. It is a strategic document to ensure the mainstreaming of this cross-cutting theme into CIDA’s development work in Egypt.

The ACE Strategy highlights the importance of strengthening the capacities of civil society – and select partners from the government (including public institutions) and business sectors – to promote and achieve good governance and active citizenship within the context of CIDA’s Program in Egypt, which is: to generate economic growth by strengthening the enabling environment for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) and providing skills for employment to marginalized citizens.
