Education Support for Prisoners and their Families
Prisoners and their families represent a primary beneficiary group through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) efforts to advance the Human Rights Approach to Development in Egypt. Aiming to provide an average of 500 beneficiaries of detainees and their families with services supporting them to continue their education, the program offers educational services to prisoners, detainees and their families, including tuition fees, schoolbooks, tutorial books and stationary.
One of the main objectives of the Embassy of Canada in Cairo is to encourage prisoners and detainees to continue their studies inside prisons and defend their educational rights. The project is implemented by a Canada Fund supported organization, committed to advocate comprehensive reforms in the laws, administrative regulations and practices governing penal systems in the Arab world in order to bring them into accordance with international human rights covenants and conventions.
