Safe Vocational Training for Children at Risk
This project addresses the category of working children, especially those involved in the worst forms of child labor (ILO convention 182/1999) in the squatter neighborhoods of Old Cairo. The project aims at increasing education and learning opportunities for working children through vocational training. In addition, the project includes awareness raising activities within the local community especially as it relates to children’s health, physical as well as psychological well being (as per the Convention on the Rights of the Child CRC).
The awareness activities take place through children’s direct participation thus making them a direct stakeholder in project implementation. As a result, children will not only have access to a safe working environment, but will also receive professional technical skills and soft skills through a structured training program of four months. Following the vocational training course, the children will receive a certification and will be supported in finding jobs in enterprises or smaller workshops that adhere to the Egyptian law on child labor and which can provide safe equipment and working environment.
