The 2008 Egypt MDG Mid-Term Assessment Report
Egypt MDG Reports not only track the country’s international commitments but also are a tool for focusing on priorities, guiding future actions, documenting current public policies and highlighting challenges to be addressed.
The 2008 Egypt MDG Mid Term Assessment Report, with 2007 as its reference date, is a midpoint between the adoption of the MDGs in 2000 and achieving them in 2015. The 2007 reference point also allowed for an update of the indicators of the 2005 report with 2004 as its reference date.
This report incorporated new sets of collected data to provide revised measures. These sets of data are obtained from a number of reports including, in particular, the following: the 2007 World Bank/Ministry of Education Report, Egypt Poverty Assessment, the 2007 Ministry of Health and Populations Reports, the 2007 World Bank World Development Indicators, the 2006 Census, the 2005 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey, the United Nation Development Program/Institute of National Planning Egypt Human Development 2005, and the 2004-2007 Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency Reports.
Supported by facts and figures, the report highlights key messages with respect to the following eight goals: Eradication of Extreme Poverty and Hunger, Achievement of Universal Primary education, Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women, Reducing Child Mortality, Improving Maternal Health, Combating HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Major Diseases, Ensuring Environmental Sustainability, and Developing a Global Partnership for Development.
