City of Dead - Social and Economic Empowerment in Cairo’s Cemeteries
The primary objective of the project is to support women and families living in Cairo cemeteries to acquire their social and economic rights. The project targets five (5) different cemetery locations in Cairo, those are: Basateen, Tonsy, Emam Shafei, Bab el Wazeer and El Mogawereen. The project aims to provide legal awareness as well as social and economic services for 1125 women and girls and 600 working children. The project interventions have been developed in a participatory form through direct assessment conducted by the implementing organization in the targeted communities. The project objectives will be achieved through the following interventions: Legal empowerment of local populations through issuing official documents for 1000 women and their families; Economic empowerment for women through training and access to social &financial services; Mapping Social Security Services/Technical Assistance available in the targeted project areas; Provision of advice and assistance for local communities to access social services; Creation of focal legal and social services units via partner organizations to serve local populations. Accordingly, the project is comprised of four main components:
