Canadian International Development Agency's (CIDA) Egypt Program

Since 1976, Canada has been an important bilateral partner in Egypt's developmental efforts. At first this partnership consisted of lines of credit for commodities and infrastructure projects. In the 1980's the country-to-country aid program focus shifted to technical assistance in the environment and socio-economic development sectors. The goal of CIDA's new Egypt Country Development Programming Framework (CDPF) is to support Egypt in its efforts to reduce poverty of the country's marginalized groups, in particular women and children/youth. The primary sectors of intervention are furthering human resource development through support to basic education and fostering better employment opportunities through small and medium enterprise development. Capacity building, gender, environment and children are cross-cutting themes.
